India Latter and Powys Sprite qualified for HOYS at the National Welsh Championship Show. Once again the victory at HOYS was theirs!! As in 2014 they won the class for the Mountain & Moorland Ridden Welsh A pony of the Year and the gold performance medal. We are very happy we went to see the show!

We were also proud to see Powys Jack Flash (born in 2000 out of Lacy Fleur by Gredington Calon Lan) again, ridden by Thomas Payne (age 10) at HOYS in class 29a, the M&M First Ridden Pony of the Year. They qualified at the Royal Norfolk Show. At HOYS they ended up as finalists in 9th place. We think they make a lovely combination and expect to see them both again in the future.

Practicing patience!

Powys Poppy
, a lovely bay filly foal, born on June 6, 2016 out of Julmar Pippin by Powys Stardancer. Poppy has the sweetest of characters! We are convinced she will be a great friend for her new owner, Iris, who already owns Powys Fflur Coch.

out of Powys Sian by IJsselvliedts Super Ted (by Powys Shon), home at stud to cover some of our mares. Thank you Potteries Stud for letting us have him for the season!

OLYMPIA, The London International Horse Show 2015

At Olympia in december 2015, they did it again! Powys Sprite, ridden by India Latter, for the 2nd year in a row, became Best of Breed section A.

We were kindly invited to attend the presentation of the Welsh Pony & Cob Performance Awards on the 29th of November 2015 in Cheltenham. Of course we went!

During a lovely meeting India Latter was presented with a gold performance medal and the Treharne Bowl because her Sprite won the Performance Competion for the Section A. We, as his proud breeders, were presented The Jilton Prince Charming Cup, it is ours for a year. To commemorate the occasion we were also presented with a lovely plate that is ours to keep.

Powys Fflur Coch, a lovely roan filly foal, born in 2015 out of Powys Ffiona by Lacy Jaffa, sold to Iris Croonenbroek, another young Welsh Mountain pony enthousiast that has found her way to our Stud. We are sure Iris and Fflur Coch will be the best of friends.

Kim is a very good handler and she loves to show her ponies, so we wish her lots of succes at the shows. We hope she will enjoy her ponies and that the Powys bloodlines will do her proud!

Powys Stardancer
born on the 3rd of June 2011 out of Powys Seren by Lacy Jaffa. Stardancer has grown from a promising foal and yearling into a fine and well behaved stallion. In 2015 he went to live in the United Kingdom.

The Welsh Pony and Cob Society Performance Show at the weekend of May 23 and 24, 2015.

Powys Sprite once again pulled out all of the stops at the WPCS Performance Show! He won the Section A dressage, was Overall dressage small breeds winner, won the Open ridden class, went Open Champion ridden, NPS Silver Medal winner, Performance medal winner, won the Working Hunter class, went Champion Working Hunter, ended up 4th in the Showjumping, was 2nd in the Cross Country and won the Horse trials. He was also Overall Champion Section A when they added all the points up and was Reserve Supreme over all the breeds (1 mark behind the winner).
If that wasn't a brilliant weekend!

Powys Pip and Powys Fflach

On the 25th of February 2015 Powys Pip 94587 went to the "Rheinischen Pferdestammbuch" Stallion Show in Wickrath, Germany  and was approved there as a stallion (first class). Powys Pip is out of Julmar Pippin (by Powys Shon) by Lacy Jaffa.

The same happened some weeks earlier to Powys Fflach 94588 at the same venue. Powys Fflach is out of Powys Ffiona (by Rhydyfelin Story) by Lacy Jaffa.

This means that up to this date 6 stallions of our breeding have been approved of:
in The Netherlands:
1. Powys Shon (out of Lacy Sable by Blackhill Picalo);
2. Powys Sant (out of Lacy Sable by Waxwing Hillbilly);

OLYMPIA 2014, The London International Horse Show

Powys Sprite
When India Latter and Powys Sprite won the Mountain and Moorland classes at this years Royal Welsh Show and HOYS, we thought that 2014 could not get any better!
We were proven wrong!!

At Olympia in London, on the 22nd of December 2014, we experienced another amazing result for India and Powys Sprite at the BSPS Heritage Supreme Championship.

In a class of 40 ponies, all native breeds of the UK, Sprite was judged best of breed Welsh section A and became 5th out of the 40 contenders.

We thought it was a fantastic ending of an amazing year! A big thank you to India and her mum Chris, for taking "our boy" all over the UK and for bringing out the best in him, time and time again!

India Latter and Powys Sprite

5th in class and best of breed

Sunday October 19, 2014

We just heard that Sprite and India have qualified for OLYMPIA at the BSPS Heritage Championship in the Arena UK in Lincolnshire!

Congratulations to Team Sprite: Chris, India and Julie Devenney, groom for the occasion and the amazing Spritey.

Powys Sprite
Another amazing result for India Latter and Powys Sprite. On Thursday the 9th of October 2014 Sprite won the Mountain & Moorland Ridden Welsh A Pony of the Year class at HOYS! Out of 24 ponies, all winners of a HOYS qualifier show, he was judged to be the best one, with top marks for confirmation and breed type.

Another result for India and her boy that makes us as his breeders mighty proud. We are happy that we were there with the other members of Sprites fanclub to witness the fact and to celebrate the occasion!
What an unforgettable day!

Winning at the Royal Welsh Show and at HOYS in the same year, 2014 surely can not get any better!

Powys Jack Flash
At HOYS we also met Powys Jack Flash again (Lacy Fleur x Gredington Calon Lan). Jack Flash (born in 2000) was the first foal to be born at our stud out of Fleur.
Jack Flash qualified for HOYS at the NPS Area 20 Summer Show. He appeared in the Mountain & Moorland First Ridden Pony of the Year class, with his 8 year old rider Thomas J. Payne. They make a lovely combination.

A great weekend!

Powys Faith
On Saturday the 9th of August 2014 we took Powys Faith (Powys Ffiona x IJsselvliedts Super Ted) to the Dragon Show in Oldebroek, where she was succesfully shown by a very special handler, our good friend Abbie Devenney.
Abbie was last years Royal Welsh Champion Senior Young Handler!

Powys Sprite
On Sunday the 10th of August 2014 India Latter and Powys Sprite competed at the National Welsh Championship Show in Malvern. Despite the horrible weather they won their class.

Oops, we did it again!!

Royal Welsh Show, July 21-24, 2014.

Once again India Latter entered her Powys Sprite for the Ridden Mountain & Moorland class at the RWS. For the second year in a row they were announced winners of their class, after an amazing performance! Sprite won by 14 marks ahead of anyone else, that is an impressive result. Also for the second time they won The Velvet Challenge Cup, a special prize awarded to the best ridden section A pony. What a fantastic result for India and her Spritey!

Powys Siarl

On the 13th of April 2014, the Potteries Stud took Siarl to Well, to a local stallion show. He looked amazing and gave a great performance.
Siarl is
out of Powys Sian by IJsselvliedts Super Ted.

Lacy Fleur, 1991-2013

More misfortune. After a short illness we had to put our Fleur to sleep, the last one of our two foundation mares!
We lost her to rapidly progressing cancer, we couldn't save her. She leaves a hole in our hearts.

Powys Steffyn, 2009-2013

When we came home from the Deutschland Cup,
in a happy mood, we unfortunately had a telephone call from our friends up North, that they had found Steffyn dead in his field.
Apparently he didn't suffer at all. He will be sorely missed. We had great expectations of him, because he was the only son of IJsselvliedt Super Ted and Powys Seren.

Powys Sarah

Powys Siarl

Deutschland Cup, Germany, August 24th, 2013.

The Powys Stud and ponies of its breeding had a very good day at the Show for the Deutschland Cup, held in Elsdorf, Germany. The in-hand classes at the show were judged by mr. Meurig Evans, Dyfrdwy Stud in Wales.

Powys Sarah (Powys Sian x Lacy Jaffa) won the yearling filly class (alas she was the only one in the class...), but she became Reserve Youngstock Champion.

Powys Siarl (Powys Sian x IJsselvliedt Superted) won the young stallion class, alas the competion didn't show up, so he too was the only pony in his class!

Richards Sybrwd (Powys Swsi (out of Powys Sian)) x Powys Fizz (Lacy Fleur x Waxwing Hillbilly)) won the barren mare class.

Powys Swyn (Powys Sian x Waxwing Hillbilly) won the class 4-year old and over, mares with a foal at foot. Second in this class was Lacy Serena, ex Powys Stud, we sold to the Richards Stud here in
The Netherlands.

Lacy Serena, 18 years old and still very beautiful, then won the Veteran Mares class.

Powys Swyn won the Adult Championship section A and Richards Sybrwd became Reserve. Subsequently Powys Swyn became Overall Champion Section A and again Richards Sybrwd became Reserve Overall Champion section A. And finally, Powys Swyn became Reserve Supreme Champion, to a magnificent section D mare, Little Home Lady Morgaine, the Supreme Champion.

We congratulate the Potteries Stud in The Netherlands, current owners of Powys Siarl and the Richards Stud on their fantastic results at this show. What a great day out for all of us!

I'm never bored at a Show!

Royal Welsh Show, July 22-25, 2013.

Powys Sprite, owned by Miss India Latter, was entered by Mrs. Julie Devenney for the in-hand class 8 year old and over stallions Section A. He was shown on the Tuesday, by Abbie Devenney. They achieved a beautiful 4th place in a very strong class of stallions, many of them very well known!

India Latter entered her Sprite for the Ridden Mountain & Moorland ponies class on Thursday. They gave a fantastic performance and won their class! Apart from this they won another Performance Medal and The Velvet Challenge Cup, a special prize for the best ridden section A pony that comes with a Royal Welsh Gold Medal. There was a lot of competition in this class, among others from Sprites sire, Heniarth Quinnell. It was a lovely sight to see the two together later.

The spoils!

left: Heniarth Quinnell
right: Powys Sprite

There is no way to describe the feeling you get when you see a pony you bred do so good, both in-hand and ridden, and you then realise you have indeed bred a Royal Welsh Winner.

To witness Sprites successes was great, but to experience them with dear friends, was even greater!!!

The Royal Welsh Showground at Llanelwedd,
Builth Wells.

Abbie Devenney, Royal Welsh Show 2013

Apart from showing Powys Sprite, our good friend Abbie, competed in the Young Handlers Classes with Rookery Hattie. Abbie became Royal Welsh Champion Senior Young Handler. Very well done Abbie, congratulations!

Powys Sprite

At Cheshire County Show, June 19th, Powys Sprite was shown in hand by our good friend Abbie Devenney, Julmar Stud. He won a Reserve Championship and a Silver Medal.

What a lovely picture they make!
Thank you Abbie!

Powys Sprite

May 25th, 2013, Cothi Bridge Show.

Sprite won his 3rd Performance medal of the year, his 5th Sash of the week and 2nd Performance medal of the week!
And he became Ridden Welsh Champion!
Well done India and Spritey!

Powys Sprite

May 18 & 19, 2013.
Powys Sprite, ridden by miss India Latter went to the WPCS performance show this weekend. They won the dressage, show jumping, cross country, ridden class, horse trials, novice working hunter and open working hunter classes. They won 7 cups, 4 sashes and loads of rosettes over the 2 days!

What an incredible performance again! As Sprites breeders we are mighty proud of him and grateful to the Latter family for taking such good care of him.

Powys Shon

Shon settled in quite nicely in his "own" stable.

Powys Shon is by Blackhill Picalo out of Lacy Sable,
by Gredington Andreas, by Coed Coch Planed.

             Change of plans!

on April 28th, Powys Shon arrived home again! This multi Champion and multi medal winning stallion will cover most of our mares this season.

We are very grateful to John and Julie Devenney, Julmar Stud and especially to their daughter Abbie for giving us the opportunity to have Shon at his birthplace again.

Powys Jack Flash

May 6th, 2013, saw Powys Jack Flash with his new rider, 7 year old Thomas Marriott, at the Showing Register Show in Rugby. Here they are seen winning the tiny tots first ridden class.

They have already won several first ridden classes and started jumping now.

Powys Sprite

India Latter is successful with Sprite again in 2013!

In March they went to the NPS Show were he won a first, was Champion and won a Silver Medal.

At Lampeter Stallion Show on the 20th of April 2013, they won both the ridden Section A classes, two reserve Championships and on top of that Sprite was Reserve Supreme Champion ridden horse.

The next day they went to the Glamorgan Welsh Pony and Cob Show. Sprite won his jumping class, went Champion of his section, winning the Performance Medal.  He then became Supreme Champion in Show!

On monday the 6th of May Sprite went to the Showing Register Show in Rugby, where he qualified for HOYS 2013!

Well done India and Sprite, what a great team they are!!

Powys Swift 74849

On Sunday the 4th of November 2012 Powys Swift was graded a stallion in Wickrath, Germany, by the "Rheinisches Pferdestammbuch". He impressed the judges with his type, movement, lovely head and eye. They called him "an eyecatcher".

This means Swift is after Powys Shon, Powys Sprite and Powys Sant, the fourth stallion, born at our small stud, to be graded.

Lacy Jaffa

On the 25th of October 2012 our friend Lacy Jaffa (Gredington Jocylyn x Lacy Justyn) returned home to Wales. He was at our stud for three years and we are very happy with his offspring. Jaffa has been the perfect gentleman. A big thank you to Colin and Sarah Tibbey for letting us have him.

Horse of the Year Show 2012 news

 HOYS 2012

Powys Sprite (a 7-year old stallion out of Lacy Sable by Heniarth Quinnell) did a fantastic job at The Horse of the Year Show in Birmingham, on the 3rd of October 2012. In the "Baileys Horse Feeds Mountain & Moorland Ridden Welsh A Pony of the Year", a very strong class of 21 ponies - that all were champions in 2012 at  a HOYS qualifying show - he was placed second!
We are mighty proud of this great result and are ever so happy that we were there to see it happen. We thank Chris and India Latter for all their effort, they made it possible for Sprite to shine at HOYS! We also thank the special groom for the occasion, Julie Devenney of the Julmar Stud for making him look completely immaculate.

Powys Jack Flash came out under saddle in the Mountain ann Moorland class and won a 2nd place.

Auric Peanut, a yearling colt, by Vierhoeks Figo, by our Powys Shon, came 2nd in the yearling colt class.

Congratulations to the various owners of Powys related ponies.

Powys Sprite and our friend Abbie Devenney

Powys Sant

In February 2011 Powys Sant was the third stallion of our breeding to be approved at the Dutch Stallion Show. After the show Sant was sold to Russia. There he was entered in a big equestrian event in St. Petersburg, called Ipposfera 2011. He became Overall Champion Pony Breeds, Reserve Champion Horses and Ponies of All Breeds and Overall Reserve Champion in Show!

       Lacy Jaffa

We are very happy that mr. Colin Tibbey gave us the opportunity to have Lacy Jaffa, Lacy Justyn x Gredington Jocylyn, for 2010 and 2011.
He is a very typey, very good moving colt, out of bloodlines we appreciate very, very much.

We are very taken with the foals he gave us.

On the 19th of January 2011 we saw again, after quite some time, two young stallions of our breeding. They are both staying at the Richards Stud in Bergentheim, Netherlands.

Powys Frenchie

Powys Frenchie, out of Lacy Ffiona (Lacy Fleur x Rhydyfelin Story) by Langevoren Reuben (Bengad Dogberry x Sunwillow Monte Rosa), born in 2006.

Powys Stardust

Powys Stardust, out of Powys Seren (Lacy Sable x Waxwing Hillbilly) by Rhydyfelin Star Maker (Gartconnel Countryman x Rhydyfelin Star Struck), born in 2007.

Powys Sant

In September 2010, we went to see Powys Sant, at that time under saddle, ridden by Miss India Latter.

Powys Sant, out of Lacy Sable (Dryfe Selena x Gredington Andreas) by Waxwing Hillbilly (Revel Hetty x Cantref Glory), born in 2003.

Powys Jack Flash, (Lacy Fleur x Gredington Calon Lan)

Freddie and Jack at the Horse of the Year Show 2010.

In Cheltenham, UK, on December 5, 2010 Freddie Thompson, the rider of our Powys Jack Flash, received out of the hands of Dr. Wynne Davies the Treharne Bowl, for the second time. He was awarded the Bowl for winning the Welsh Pony and Cob Society Performance Award section A 2010. Jack Flash won for us, his breeders, the Jilton Prince Charming Cup, which is awarded since 1976, what an honour.

Powys Shon and Powys Sprite

We are very proud of the successes the Devenney family of the Julmar Stud have with "our boys", Shon and Sprite. We are very lucky that Julie and Abbie never seem to get tired of showing them both!

Powys Faith

June 26, 2010 De Zeeuwse Dag van het Paard Show.

We took Powys Faith (Powys Ffiona x IJsselvliedt Super Ted) on her first show. She won her yearling filly class and was later Reserve Youngstock Champion Section A.
Not bad for a first outing!

    Powys Seren

June 26, 2010 De Zeeuwse Dag van het Paard Show.

We took Seren to this Show too, she won her class and was later Reserve Adult Champion Section A.
With 27 centigrade she thought is was a rather hot day!

Powys Synnu

June 2010.

Great little friends!

Powys Synnu, out of Powys Sian by Powys Sant and our little friend Laura.

Powys Seren

On the 29th of May 2010 we took Powys Seren to the WPCV Summer Show in Elim. Although mr. Price, Littlewern Stud (UK), apparently liked even shorter heads and bolder eyes, he placed her second in a very strong class.

Powys Jack Flash

Powys Jack Flash was Lacy Fleurs first Powys foal by Gredington Calon Lan. He is now with the Thompson family from Devon. Their son Freddie and Jack Flash started together in leading rein and first ridden classes and are by now very succesful in hunting, cross country and so on. Together they won several Championships. In 2009 they were runners up for the Treharne Bowl and qualified  for the Horse of the Year Show on several occasions.

On the 15th of June 2010 mrs. Thompson informed us that Jack Flash already qualified for the All Breed Horse of the Year Show 2010. A weekend later he won this seasons first Silver Medal. We congratulate the Thompson family with these successes.

      Powys Shon

Powys Shon, out of Lacy Sable by Blackhill Picalo, he is owned by our friends, the Devenney familiy of the Julmar Stud in Lancashire, Great Britain. He is a Supreme Champion stallion and has won a lot of Championships, bronze and silver medals for them. Please have a look a the Julmar Stud website.

      Powys Sprite

Powys Sprite, is halfbrother to Shon, out of Sable too, but by Heniarth Quinnell, by Gwyn Rhosyn Frenin.
For the 2008 and 2009 season Sprite has been at the Voorthoeve Stud for the mares of the Droste family in the East of The Netherlands.
In the autumn of 2009 Sprite found his way to the Julmar Stud as well. We hope he will give them very nice foals.

Sprite has by now won his first Supreme Championship as well.

Powys Sant

Our 2010 foals are by Powys Sant. Sant is out of Lacy Sable again but by Waxwing Hillbilly. He is full brother to Powys Seren, please see the mares pages of our site. Sant has been at the Haverford Stud for two seasons before. After his stud duties at our place he is now with India Latter, who rides and competes with him under saddle.

Powys Sant under saddle, ridden by miss India Latter.

Julmar Pippin

In the autumn of 2009 we have acquired from the Devenney family, Julmar Pippin.
Pippin is by Powys Shon out of Penwisg Pippin by Twyford Newsflash. We are very happy she resembles her grand dam Lacy Sable, both in color and character.

Powys Siarl

Powys Siarl, out of Powys Sian by IJsselvliedt Super Ted, by Powys Shon. Siarl is a 2009 foal and has been sold to our good friends Patrick and Agnes Symoens of the Perlhof Stud in Belgium. He is developing marvelously. Siarl is very true to type and an excellent mover.

       Lacy Jaffa

We are very happy that mr. Colin Tibbey gave us the opportunity to have Lacy Jaffa, Lacy Justyn x Gredington Jocylyn, for 2010 and 2011.
